I’m not sure if this new youtube layout thing benefits everyone…
“What do you do for a living?”
“I’m a novelist.”
“Right, but how do you pay your bills?”
“Giraffe sex videos.”

Religion and Gay Marriage
In which John discusses marriage equality, what a traditional marriage actually is, and what role (if any) theological understandings of marriage play in the legal definition of marriage. Let’s continue this conversation in comments, but in doing so, let’s remember that nerdfighteria is about respect and generosity. Thanks.
Oh John Green. I love you platonicly.

I am really impressed that John Green is even attempting to navigate the comment section on the Crash Course video about Islamic history and Arabian history.
Cause I would be running in the other direction
Islam, the Quran, and the Five Pillars All Without a Flamewar: Crash Course World History #13
this is a fairly good overview into the Religion! The only thing I would correct is that the “shahada” is used with both Shia’a and Sunni peoples, since, when you become a Muslim, you need to say the Shahada.
Also, for Shia’a’s, we believe that Imam Ali (A.S.) was the rightful “caliph”, not that he “should” have been (although I suppose we believed that as well!).
Regardless (I’m nitpicking) this is a very well-said overview and I encourage everyone to watch it :D

Although it wasn’t the focal point of the video at all I am really afraid that people are going to ignore the secular parts of the video and focus on the religion of the leaders, turning this into “OH WELL YOU CAN’T TRUST MUSLIMS” and I’m really afraid to read the comments below the video or even comment at all.
Is that a relevant fear? I mean, do I have a right to feel this way? Are my fears based on past experiences?
